Excerpt from Chapter 1

Next thing I knew Mom was standing in the foyer, too. “Guess this is ‘see you later’,” she said. She and Mrs. Lopez put their arms out like they were about to hug. When they saw us watching them, Mom said, “Come on, group hug.” We all held on for what felt like 10 whole minutes. Without warning, Izzy turned and ran out the door. We all three ran out after her and Izzy’s mom got in her car.

“Bye Izzy, bye-bye!!” I yelled, running after her up to the edge of our lawn. Instead of tears, I felt a big, fat hole, like an entire limb was torn off.
